Will the Massachusetts Secretary of State Deny Scott Brown a Vote on Health Care?
With the likely victory of Scott Brown in the Massachusetts Senate race, a big question is whether he will take office in time to vote on the massive health care bill. That bill is expected to come up for another Senate vote, following the secret negotiations among Democrats.
It all depends on the Massachusetts' Secretary of State.
As in Colorado, the Secretary of State certifies the state's election results.
When he won a special election in 1962, Ted Kennedy was sworn in within two hours of the special election and in 2007 Paul Tsongas was sworn in as a Massachusetts Congressman two days after the special election.
But if Scott Brown wins, the Massachusetts Secretary of State is threatening to wait more than a month before certifying the election results, so that Democrats can ram health care through. According to the Boston Herald, on January 8th the Massachusetts Secretary of State's office said that "a victorious Brown would be left in limbo."
If anything demonstrates the importance of the Secretary of State, this is it. I am truly outraged that the Massachusetts Secretary of State would even consider such a stunt.
Like me, I hope you're tired of backroom deals and election manipulation. So if Scott Brown wins the election, all America should keep the pressure on - and make sure Brown is quickly certified, just like the winners of other special elections in Massachusetts!
And finally, help make sure that Colorado never sees this type of shenanigans. The Colorado Secretary of State certifies our election results, and without your help, Colorado faces similar dangers. Your contribution of $25, $50, $75 or $150 today will help resonate that fair elections matter.
